Tofu keeps nagging me. It’s strange. To begin with I posted a blog about a teriyaki baked tofu that I made a few weeks ago without an actual recipe, so I’ve felt as if I’ve left a promise un-kept. So, I scribbled tofu on my chalkboard to remind me to measure out ingredients and post it. Then, I was reading my friend Gillian’s blog who coincidently posted a baked tofu recipe with store bought marinade. She finished her blog with a side note requesting a heads up if anyone had a good marinade recipe. So, tofu has been on my mind. Then yesterday, after dropping off some books at the Library, I needed some good conversation. My dear friend TK, notoriously inhabits a handful of coffee shops to work on his writing. So, I stopped at one of his likely workspaces and we had a good little chat. Inevitably we started talking food. TK randomly starts talking about his new and growing relationship with tofu. I asked if he had ever baked it. A “nope,” was his response. He was intrigued by the idea and I saw his brain churning as I explained the effect. I had no choice but to go home and marinate some tofu.
So, I did. Tonight I baked it. It was delicious. Try it.
Teriyaki and sesame baked tofu
Ingredients
- 1 package firm tofu
- 1 teaspoon crushed ginger
- 1 ½ Tablespoon Siracha chili sauce
- 1/3 cup Rice vinegar
- ¼ cup fresh limejuice
- The juice of ½ of a fresh orange
- 1 ½ tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- Sea salt (not much) and fresh ground pepper to taste
Method of Preparation
Mix ingredients for marinade in a medium sized flat container. Slice tofu ½ inch thick finger sized steaks. Place steaks into marinade and allow them to soak over night or longer. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Remove tofu steaks from marinade. Save the marinade- you can turn it into a great little sauce for stir-fry. Place the tofu steaks onto a foiled baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, flip and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Remove tofu from oven and allow cooling before eating. These little tofu steaks taste great by themselves, over a salad, wrapped into a spring roll or however you desire.

Yum yum, must try this!!!
